Signage and Wayfinding
Wayfinding (the way in which people orient and navigate themselves in a physical space) is straightforward and destination points such as the reception and care desks are immediately visible upon leaving an elevator or arriving inside an entry.
Entries will have unique architecture and appropriate signage that will help guide people to their destination. The main lobby is marked by a two-storey glass entry which acts as a wayfinding landmark.
Once inside the facility, appropriate signage and information sources will be immediately available. Signage and wayfinding systems will transcend visual, cultural and language barriers, particularly those visual barriers that are prevalent in the elder population.
The key landmark for navigation in the core of the facility is the central Main Street that begins at the main entry and links all primary zones of the building, both horizontally and vertically.
All elevators and stairs lead to the Main Street, which acts a central point of departure to most of the facility. Elevators that offer access for all users will be immediately visible at the end of the Main Street.
Zoning Diagram
The diagram below shows the general layout of a typical floor in the new health-care complex. This image is meant to be illustrative of the preliminary design concept; the configuration of specific departments will be developed in more detail during the ongoing design process.
